Factors Affecting The Filtration Efficiency of Filters

1, Air resistance

The moving airflow collides with the filter material, causing the airflow to detour and generating small resistance. Countless filtering fibers create a certain resistance for the entire filtering device at a certain wind speed and become the air resistance of the filtering device. When the filtering device reaches a certain resistance value (final resistance value), it is necessary to replace the filtering device in order to ensure the filtering effect. In most cases, the final resistance value is set to 2-4 times the initial value. The dirtier the filtering device, the higher the resistance value, and the corresponding air volume will be smaller at the same wind speed.

Don't assume that after cleaning, the filtration resistance no longer increases, and that the filtration device has restored its filtration function. In fact, the filtration efficiency at this time is zero. So, filtering equipment is a consumable item.

2, Wind speed

In most cases, the lower the wind speed, the higher the filtration efficiency. Because at low wind speeds, the diffusion effect of small dust is significant. The airflow stays in the filter material for a longer time, giving dust a greater chance of hitting obstacles. The filtering effect is significant at once. For high-efficiency filter materials, reducing the wind speed by half reduces the probability of dust passing through the filter material and increases the efficiency by 9. When the wind speed doubles, the probability of dust passing through the filter material will double, and the efficiency will decrease by an order of magnitude (a decrease of 9). When the wind speed is low, the probability of large particles colliding with fibers during inertial motion decreases. However, in practical applications, this effect is not significant because as the wind speed decreases, the fiber's rebound force against dust also decreases, making it easier for dust to adhere and significantly improving the filtration effect. So in practical applications, try to set reasonable low wind speed filtering parameters. It has great benefits for filtering efficiency and effectiveness.

3, Filter area

The resistance of the filtering device increases with the increase of air flow rate and flow rate. The captured or adhered dust increases the resistance to the airflow, causing an increase in the air resistance of the air filtration device. On the other hand, due to the adhesion of the captured dust filter medium into one, a new filter barrier is formed, which slightly improves the filtration efficiency. But the overall filtering effect depends on the size of the filtering device area. So, the lifespan of the filtration device is related to the filtration area.

4, Filter material

The selection and application of filtering materials are the core technology of bag type dust collection equipment, which plays a decisive role in the performance of high-efficiency air filter dust collectors. Due to the different environmental conditions of each dust collection point, the nature, temperature, and technical requirements for handling dust are different. Therefore, different filtering materials should be selected according to different conditions, and corresponding technical protection measures should be taken. The requirements for filter materials include the following technical performance: filter bag materials are suitable for different temperatures, have good peeling performance, easy cleaning, good breathability, low resistance, high filtration efficiency, high strength, can withstand high-strength cleaning, long service life, and suitable price.

5, Air leakage

Air leakage directly affects the dust collection effect and service life of the dust collector, and the required air leakage rate is less than 3%. Bag filters are generally operated under negative pressure, and if there is air leakage, it can easily form a small circuit short circuit. The dust collection system does not handle enough air volume, resulting in positive pressure dust. Air leakage can also lower the system temperature, cause moisture buildup, increase dust collection resistance, and reduce the filtration efficiency of high-efficiency filter equipment.
