The Effect of Glass Fiber Filter Material Thickness on Its Liquid Filtration Performance

Oct 13, 2023

(1) The influence of filter material thickness on flow resistance

The relationship between the pressure difference of the filter material and the time interval reflects the clogging of the gaps in the filter material and the formation of the filter cake during the multi-pass test process; The relationship between filter material pressure difference and time reflects the speed at which different filter materials are blocked by particulate matter. The process of clogging filter materials with different thicknesses by particulate matter is consistent. The reason is that in the early stage of filtration, particulate matter enters the internal pore size of the filter material and mainly deposits inside the pore size without blocking the pore size. However, in the later stage of filtration, particles basically block the internal pores and inflow surface of the filter material, making it impossible for particles to enter the filter material.

(2) The influence of filter material thickness on filtration ratio

When the average filtration ratio of four filter media thicknesses (0.12mm/0.36mm/0.60mm/0.84mm) is 75, the corresponding particle size is 8.7 ± 0.3um, which is close to the average flow pore size of the filter material. When the average flow aperture of the filter material is close, the particle size corresponding to the same average filtration ratio is close.

(3) The influence of filter material thickness on pollutant carrying capacity

Pollutant holding capacity refers to the weight of pollutants per unit area that a filter material can hold when continuously adding pollutants to a certain resistance. Pollutant holding capacity reflects the service life of the filter material. The time for the filter material to reach the end pressure difference increases with the increase of thickness, so the pollutant capacity also increases with the increase of filter material thickness.
